ABOUT OUR PROJECT
In March and October 2017 a group of 25 emerging and established artists of diverse cultures and varied artistic disciplines participated in two creative development workshops. They explored and challenged some of the dominant cultural, social and political paradigms underpinning notions of Australian identity. They questioned the histories, untruths and injustices currently governing our national narrative, and examined what is needed to achieve wellbeing (liyan) for all Australians. In 2018 these artists (filmmakers, mixed media artists, musicians, performers, photographers and writers) will create artworks stemming from the workshops’ ambitious dialogue. These interdisciplinary works will make up the Australiyaniality exhibition at Holmes à Court Gallery @ no. 10 (10 Douglas Street, West Perth WA), alongside a catalogue, speakers’ mornings, live performances, film program and interactive community events.
